Ms. Manty focuses her practice on commercial litigation and complex bankruptcy matters.  She has represented creditors in all types of settings including enforcing creditors rights and remedies in state court as well as in federal court.  Nauni has significant experience in bankruptcy law, representing debtors, creditors, and unsecured creditor committees.  Other areas of experience include creditor rights litigation such as breach of contract, replevin, garnishment, and letter of creditor issues. 

Most recently, she represented a large metropolitan economic development authority and airport authority in the Northwest Airlines bankruptcy.  She is also a Court-appointed receiver in a Securities Exchange Commission matter in U.S. District Court.  In October 1998, Nauni was appointed by the United States Trustee, United States Department of Justice, to serve as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee for the District of Minnesota.  In her position as a Chapter 7 Trustee, Nauni oversees the administration of the Chapter 7 cases.  Nauni has also been appointed as a Chapter 11 Trustee.

Ms. Manty frequently lectures at a national level on bankruptcy law, collections and analysis of financial statements.  She was named a Super Lawyer® by Minnesota Law & Politics in 2005, 2006, and 2007.  In addition, Nauni was named one of the Top 100 Female Attorneys in Minnesota.

CARE – Credit Abuse Resistance Education.  Ms. Manty is the local Chair of a national program that provides financial education to both high school and college students.



Representative Client Experience:

Appointed as Chapter 11 Trustee in a large farming operation in Southern Minnesota.  During the pendency of the case, Ms. Manty leased farm land, sold the livestock, and real property.  From the proceeds of the sale, all of the creditors, including the mortgagees were paid in full.  Ms. Manty disbursed approximately $1.6 million dollars to achieve the payment in full to all creditors.

As Chapter 7 Trustee, Ms. Manty has handled several large, complex cases.  In one particular case, she liquidated over 48 convenience stores dealing with the sale of the properties or the assumption and assignment of leases.  Revenues generated in the case exceeded $11 million.  She commenced a case against various insiders and related companies based on preference, fraudulent transfers and equitable subordination issue.  Through those efforts, she paid all of the mortgagees and unsecured creditors in full, with interest.

In other capacities, she has handled complex fraud cases involving 1031 like kind exchanges and other investment-type issues.  She has  also been appointed in U.S. District Court to act as a receiver in an action commenced by the Securities Exchange Commission, again, dealing with investment fraud.  She is currently involved in a large equity skimming case.

She represents an international human resources company, which offers outsourcing and consulting services.  She has or is currently acting as outside bankruptcy counsel in the following cases:  Hancock Fabrics, Inc., Delta Airlines, Armstrong World Industries, Dura Automotive, AT&T International, Kmart and Adelphia.  As outside bankruptcy counsel, she handles various issues, including but not limited to, employment as an expert witness, preparing and filing fee applications, defending preference claims, and other routine filings.

Ms. Manty has represented a municipality, airport authority and economic development authority, achieving a 100% payment to these clients in the Northwest Airlines bankruptcy matter.  With the bankruptcy filing, the municipality and economic development authority, together with the State of Minnesota, would have owed approximately $36 million.  With Ms. Manty’s assistance, the municipality, economic development authority and the State were able to negotiate a settlement that paid all of the bonds in full.  The municipality and economic development authority received the return of the maintenance facility free and clear of liens and encumbrances. 

Ms. Manty has represented financial institutions in Illinois, North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota in various matters, including but not limited to, enforcement of lien rights both in federal court, state court and bankruptcy court.
